Obamacare, the ACA, and the Marketplace are the same thing
"Obamacare" is the nickname for the Affordable Care Act, the 2010 law that created the Health Insurance Marketplace. When someone says Obamacare, ACA plan, or Marketplace plan, they mean the same individual and family health insurance, sold under the same rules.
In Utah, the Marketplace runs on HealthCare.gov. We're a licensed insurance agency, not the government: we help you compare the same plans at the same prices, check your tax credit, and enroll, and we're still here when you have a billing or claim question later.

What people ask us about Obamacare
Is Obamacare still around?
Yes. Plans for 2027 go on sale November 1, 2026, and Utah carriers are still selling them across the state.
Is it government insurance?
No. The plans come from private insurance companies. The government sets the rules and pays the tax credit; you get an insurance card from the carrier you choose.
Is it free?
Not usually, but tax credits lower the premium for many households, and some find a Bronze plan for little or nothing. Your price depends on income, age, and county.
Will I owe money at tax time?
Your credit is based on an income estimate. If you earn more than you estimated, you may repay some of it. A careful estimate up front keeps tax time uneventful.

Frequently Asked Questions
When can I sign up for Obamacare?+
During Open Enrollment, which for 2027 coverage starts November 1, 2026. Enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1. Outside Open Enrollment you need a Special Enrollment Period, which a life event such as losing other coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby can open.
How much does Obamacare cost in Utah?+
It depends on your age, county, household size, and income. The sticker price can be high, but the premium tax credit brings the monthly cost down for many Utah households. Entering your details on our quote page shows real plans with your estimated credit already applied.
Is there still a penalty for not having Obamacare?+
No. The federal penalty for going without health insurance was reduced to $0 starting in 2019, and Utah does not have a state penalty. The real risk of going uninsured is the bill if something happens.
Can I keep my doctor with an Obamacare plan?+
Often, but it depends on the plan. Each plan has its own network of doctors and hospitals, so check that your doctors are in network before you choose. We can help you check.
Do I have to go through HealthCare.gov?+
No. You can enroll on HealthCare.gov yourself, or through a licensed agency like ours using a certified enrollment platform. The plans and prices are the same; working with us adds a local person to call.
Still have Obamacare questions?
A licensed Utah agent can answer them in about 10 minutes, at no cost.
